2nd European Human Embryonic Stem Cell Registry Meeting
The second scientific meeting of the hESCreg project was held at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine at Barcelona on 12th July 2009. The first session was a closed meeting of members of the hESCreg Steering Committee, Scientific Advisory Board and Ethics Advisory Board. Steering Committee members gave updates on respective national developments in stem cell research and legislation. The project management team presented a proposal for refinement of the cell line data evaluation process and a forward plan to implement the changes agreed was established including a sub group of the SAB and EAB to establish a process for scoring additional scientific and ethical information beyond the hESCreg minimum criteria. At the open session of the meeting entitled International Registries presentations were given on current developments in the registries established by the hESCreg project (Joeri Borstlap), the ISSCR (Heather Rooke) and the University of Massacheusetts (Mai Luong). In discussion on each of these databases it was concluded that representatives of each project should revisit a recent proposal for collaboration on construction of a joint a web portal for stem cell data bases.
The hESCreg team wishes to thank all who have contributed for making this such a memorable event!
